Monthly Meeting Schedule Change Announcement
Hello and Happy New Year to all!
TAKE NOTICE
The LVEVA monthly meetings have been changed for 2011 to the SECOND
( 2nd ) Saturday of each month at the Clark County Library at 1401 E.
Flamingo, from 10 AM to 12 noon.
All of our meetings will now be in the Jewel Box Theater.
Our website LVEVA.ORG is being updated with new information and pictures.
Check it out for our 2011 schedules and links.
NOTICE THE RISE IN GAS PRICES?
Anyone interested in getting a good running electric vehicle at a price
lower than converting a car, check it out at our next meeting at the
Library, and see Bill Kuehl for a good deal on the car.
Also our EV workshop days are every Saturday other than the second
Saturday meeting at the Clark County Library all meetings start at 10AM,
you can get information
as to what is taking place at any time by calling 702 2777544. We are
working on vehicle and motorcycle conversions, as well as EV seminars.
Located at: 6470 Procyon Ave. Las Vegas NV 89118
Anyone interested in attending our EV seminars should sign up for them
so we can prepare our agenda.

PBS NOVA Documentary to Feature NEDRA EV Drag Racing on Feb. 2nd
From Bill Dube on Friday, January 28, 2011:
Mark your (NEDRA) calendars, the KillaCycle is going to appear on NOVA,
"Making Stuff: Cleaner" Wednesday, February 2nd.
I have no idea how much or how little of the show they are going to
dedicate to the KillaCycle, but we are going to appear. They spent a
whole day filming us in the shop ad at home early in the Summer
(before Shawn Lawless of Lawless Industries edged us out for the "top
dog" spot. ;-) )

You can click on "local listings" to find out the local broadcast
time. Here in Colorado it is going to be on PBS at 8:00 PM.
Tesla Motors Installs Public EV Charging Station in Barstow, California
Tesla Motors has been continuing its Tesla Roadster EV infrastructure
build out by installing public "quick charge" stations at
strategic locations throughout the country in order to provide a relatively
fast recharge on long distance roadtrips. These charging stations can
provide about 70 Amps of current at 220 VAC and recharge a Tesla Roadster
in about three to four hours. Recent build out efforts have installed
these stations along California highway 101, linking the Bay Area to
Los Angeles.
After popular demand from Tesla Roadster Owners in Los Angeles and
Las Vegas who wanted to facilitate driving between these two cities,
a fast charge waystation is now available in Barstow, California on
interstate highway I-15 at:

Press Release:
Delphi Electric Vehicle Charge Coupler with Cable and Charge Inlet Achieve
UL Recognition
Troy, Michigan December 9, 2010
Successful Completion of U.S. & Canadian Underwriters Laboratories,
Inc. Testing Means Components Can Now Be Used in Charging Stations and
Vehicle-Side Charging
Delphi Automotive has successfully completed evaluation of its Electric
Vehicle (EV) Charge Coupler with Cable and Charge Inlet under the Component
Recognition Program of Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL). As a result,
the UL Recognized components are now available for use in charging stations
and vehicle-side charging applications in the U.S. and Canada.
Delphi's Charge Coupler with Cable is suitable for stationary charging
applications, and the Delphi Charge Inlet is a vehicle-side interface
that mates to a charging connector to accommodate Level 1 and Level
2 charging of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and battery electric
vehicles (BEV). Delphi also began selling the previously evaluated UL
listed Portable Electric Vehicle Charger earlier this year.
UL is an independent product safety certification organization that
has been testing products and writing standards for safety for over
a century. Achieving UL Recognition means Delphi's Charge Coupler with
Cable can now be incorporated into any charging station in the U.S and
Canada, and Delphi's Charge Inlet can be engineered into electric vehicles
in these regions.
According to Randy Sumner, director, hybrid and electric vehicle development,
Delphi Packard Electrical/Electronic Architecture, the component testing
for UL Recognition is rigorous.
"Achieving UL Recognition is a significant step in the development
of our EV charging components and an important endorsement of the safety
of our products," Sumner said. "Our components also have unique
and consumer-driven styling and performance features that will help
set charging stations and electric vehicles apart from the competition."
In the research and development phase of its Electric Vehicle Charge
Coupler with Cable, Delphi held focus groups to better understand consumer
preferences for the shape and size of the charger handle and its overall
design in terms of material, shape, and ergonomic features. The focus
groups were comprised of current hybrid vehicle owners interested in
purchasing an EV or PHEV as their next vehicle. Participants were shown
various Delphi interconnect prototypes and design renderings and provided
feedback on the styling and functionality they preferred and found to
be most comfortable and convenient.
"Consumers are looking to hybrid and electric vehicles as a means
to increase fuel economy and lower greenhouse gas emissions for a greener
future," Sumner said. "In order for them to become reality,
they must be accessible and practical for the average consumer. We believe
these charging systems will go a long way toward helping make EV charging
safe and easy-to-use for everyone."
Delphi is a leading global supplier of electronics and technologies
for automotive, commercial vehicle and other market segments. Operating
major technical centers, manufacturing sites and customer support facilities
in 30 countries, Delphi delivers real-world innovations that make products
smarter and safer as well as more powerful and efficient.

NASCAR Hendrick Motor Sports Owner Buys First Production Chevy Volt
In mid-December 2010, NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick paid $225,000
at a charity auction to purchase the first production version of the
2011 GM Chevrolet Volt available for sale. His NASCAR team, Hendrick
Motor Sports, has won ten NASCAR championships and a record five consecutive
Sprint Cup titles in the last five years with team drivers Jimmie Johnson,
Jeff Gordon and Mark Martin. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. has also driven for
the Hendrick Motor Sports NASCAR team. Rick Hendrick is also a car collector
and owner of a nationwide chain of GM automotive dealerships.
He views the GM Chevrolet Volt as "one of the most exciting and
important new cars since we opened our first dealership in 1976".
Proceeds from the auction will benefit a Detroit Public Schools fund
for math, science and engineering programs.
GM expects to sell 15,000 GM Chevrolet Volts during its first year of
production.
New Electric Drive Transportation Association Website GoElectricDrive.com
The Electric Drive Transportation Association (EDTA) launched a new
web site in mid-November at: www.goelectricdrive.com
It will contain content about the EV industry as well as a news wire
feeds, events calendar and resources section. The site will also host
guest bloggers as well as link with Facebook and Twitter pages. Bill
Moore of EV World is acting as interim site manager until a full-time
communications director is hired.
The EDTA is one of the main sponsors of the annual international Electric
Vehicle Symposium (EVS), a trade show that draws together thousands
of attendees from the international electric vehicle industry to share
the latest breakthroughs in EV technology.
